Knowing when it is time to make your next career shift?

Those first thoughts that come along when considering whether it is time to move on from your current role or not can often be led by uncertainty or even fear. Whilst there is no one size fits all answer to this question there are certain signs that can help you determine whether it might be the right time for a change.

  1. One sign to be aware of is whether there is a lack of growth opportunities in your current role. If you are feeling as if you might have come to a plateau in terms of your career and there isn’t any more room for advancement, this is always a good indicator that now might be a good time for a shift.
  2. Do you feel excited and engaged by your work? If you are lacking passion or fulfilment this is a good indicator that it is most likely time to move forward.
  3. Work/life balance is crucial within any role when it comes to maintaining your mental well-being. Are you receiving a good level of support within your role? If you are experiencing high stress or even burnout on a regular basis, this is often a sign to begin considering what other possibilities are currently in the market.
  4. Are you being fairly compensated in your current role? It is important to be aware of current salary data in the market to ensure you are receiving a fair income at your current level.

It never hurts to open yourself up to those initial conversations and ensure you are opening yourself up to the best opportunities. By exploring potential career options under no obligations, you can ensure you have considered the best potential avenues by allowing yourself to have a point of comparison. It is always a good idea to remain open-minded even when not actively looking in the market. There is always the possibility there is another excellent opportunity out there.
